Prisoners and the H1N1 vaccine
I dont know exactly how I feel about this. Listening to the news today, I heard that one of the important groups getting the vaccine, are the prisoners. If I am not mistaken I heard that prisoners on death row, that are living in close quarters are getting it first. Am I the only one asking Why?
Aren’t there enough children, pregnant women or health care professionals that need the vaccine, before an inmate does? I understand that inmates live in close quarters and the possibility of an outbreak inside the walls of a prison could and would be deadly, but there are many adults with pre-existing conditions, and young children that need it far more than an inmate.
The H1N1 vaccine is limited, and not knowing when the next supply will be in, someone in our state and government officals needs to make a priority decision. How will they explain to families that their child died because the prisoners in the next town needed to be vaccinated first. The way I see it, it would not be a pretty picture.
I would like to know if this upsets others the way it has me.

The shortage of vaccine is making me very angry…. I have a 5 year old who cant get it still and she has asthma… that said I can see why prisoners would be vaccinated as it will devastate the prisons if it gets in there.
The thing that made me made here in canada is that a professional hockey team and their families got vaccinated in a city that is running out ahead of pregnant women and children. That same city has stopped vaccinating pregnant women temporarily due to the shortage.
We we all promised our children would ALL be vaccinated before school started and now we are getting notices telling us that its in our school the have a high absence rate due to it amongst staff and children.
Right now I am trying to be patient and wait…. but my child goes to the hospital and gets put on an aspirator if she gets the seasonal flu…. why logically would they make her wait as she is 5 and not under 5….
okay my rant is done.
